United States Steel Corporation has an immediate opening for a Utilities Manager at the Gary Works facility in Gary, IN.
This position will supervise and direct the operations for the Utilities Department as they support the boiler houses, turbo-blower complexes, Co-Generation facility, pump houses, water treatment facilities, plant utilities and other ancillary facilities associated with plant utilities. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge as it relates to integrated steel mill operations.
Position Duties:
Monitors electrical distribution system with Plant.
Directs/coordinates switching on system.
Coordinate activities and point- of-contact with local Utility Company (NIPSCO).
Monitor electrical load in Plant. Control electrical demand by adjusting internal power production and directing holds on Plant operations.
Monitors and directs consumption of by-product fuels (BFG and COG) to Plant consumers.
Monitors and directs operation of service water Pump Stations.
Monitors sanitary lift stations operations.
Monitor Plant air emissions to comply with Air Permit Requirements.
Directs Plant operations to maintain compliance.
Monitor industrial gas systems (Nitrogen, oxygen, natural gas,etc.
Facilitates Plantwide communication.
Participates in month end closing activities for energy costs (accounting type function).
Lead and ensure safety and environmental activities and compliance. Assist and support production units in reaching quality, delay and yield goals/targets.
Requirements:
High School diploma or equivalent is required. Bachelors or Associates degree in Engineering, technology or related military or industrial experience preferred.
Minimum of 3 years operations and supervisory experience in the field of steam production, co-generation, and/or plant utilities management.
Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. Experience directing and supervising a unionized workforce is a plus.
Must be able to work rotating shifts, extended workdays and weekends. 21 turn per week coverage
Strong leadership, planning and communications skills coupled with a sense of urgency.
Good keyboard and computer skills a plus.
